The world has gone digital and all spheres of the economy have turned to information technology for advancement. Nigeria has not been left out in this development as efforts have been made to tap into this. Contractors in the Information Technology are required to undertake registration with NITDA.
NITDA is the National Information Technology Agency (NITDA). It is mandated to register and license all IT contractors and service providers for the purposes of procurements, PPPs and other forms of engagement with government establishments and private sector.
NITDA was established to develop, regulate and advise on Information technology in the country through regulatory standards, guidelines and policies. It is the prime Agency for e-government implementation, Internet governance and general IT development in Nigeria.
In exercising its mandate, the Agency (NITDA) shall register Information Technology (IT) Service Providers, Consultants and Contractors to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government.
The process aims at ensuring the emergence of robust indigenous IT service providers and contractors, guaranteeing the delivery of sustainable IT projects as well as engendering professionalism in the IT service industry.
It will also ensure that IT projects in MDAs will only be executed by indigenous companies where in-country capacity exists which will in turn allow to monitor and ensure the capacity development of Nigerians employed by IT contractors and other service providers.
NITDA registered firms and companies have the advantage of being consulted first before any IT firm is engaged for the purpose of providing IT related services and will be recognized as having capabilities for the provision of IT services to Federal MDAs and other government establishments.

The IIC Portal hosted by the National Information Technology Development Agency is a platform created for registration with NITDA. It is to ensure hassle free process of registration and certification of indigenous IT service providers/contractors to Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Complete and upload all relevant information and documents on the registration portal at iicp.nitda.gov.ng
Submit the completed form with all accompanying documents stipulated in the form and a duly signed application Letter (addressed to the Director General of NITDA) to the Director General’s Registry.
The applicant shall be issued a provisional registration certificate valid for an initial period of 6 (six) months, if the Agency is satisfied that all registration requirements stipulated in the guidelines are met.
Where the application fails to meet the requirements, a formal report or letter, containing advice/recommendations on how to comply with all registration requirements stipulated in the guidelines, will be sent to an applicant.
The Agency shall carry out verification to ascertain the veracity of all information and documents submitted by the applicant. Where the verification result is sufficient, the Agency shall issue the applicant a substantive registration certificate which shall be valid for a period of 2 (two) years commencing from the initial date of issuance of provisional certificate.
All IT service Providers/Consultants issued substantive registration certificates will be listed in the NITDA’s National Database for Indigenous IT companies.
Where the Agency is satisfied that the applicants have met all registration requirements and that the document provided in support of the application are valid, the Agency shall issue a provisional certificate of registration which shall be valid for a period of 6 months from the date of issue.
Within the validity period of the provisional certificate, the agency shall take steps to ascertain the veracity of all information supplied by the applicant, If satisfied that the information provided are true, the Agency shall before the expiration of the provisional certificate, issue a substantive certificate which shall be valid for a period of 2 years commencing from the date of issuance of provisional certificate by the Agency.

All Applications for renewals must be submitted to the Agency at least 3months before the expiration of issued substantive certificate of registration.
The Agency shall revoke applicant’s provisional license and refuse the issuance of a substantive registration certificate, if satisfied that any or all documents submitted by the applicant are fabricated or untrue.
